The 2026 Formula 1 cars are set to be smaller, nimbler and more environmentally friendly than this year.
F1 has introduced the simplified vocabulary that will be used to reference the advanced features of its revolutionary 2026 technical rules.
The championship is embarking on what is arguably the biggest rules overhaul in its long history starting in 2026, featuring revised car and engine specifications and the required adoption of fully sustainable fuels.
The new power units, which retain the 1.6-litre V6 configuration, boast a significantly increased battery power, necessitating significant developments in the vehicles' aerodynamic design.

The 2026 cars will be reduced in size and weight than this year, with a car length cut by 200mm to 3,400mm, width reduced by 100mm – down to 1,900mm – and the car weight decreased by 30kg.
Overall downforce is projected to decrease by approximately a significant margin, although teams will inevitably claw this back as they optimize their packages.
Drag has been reduced by 40%. The vehicles will employ active aerodynamics – both wings will adjust on the straights to improve speed and enhance velocity and return into place for maximum cornering performance.
Pirelli tyres will continue to use 18-inch rims, but the tyres themselves will be narrower, by 25 millimetres on the front axle and 30 millimetres on the rear axle.
The revised hybrid units will have an roughly half-and-half distribution in energy output by the internal combustion engine and the battery and motor, a rise from about one-fifth electric power in the current formula.
The energy recovery system is streamlined through the deletion of the Motor Generator Unit – Heat, the intricate and expensive unit that generated electricity from the turbocharger.
Cars will be obliged to compete on fully sustainable fuel, created from biomass or synthetic industrial processes.
