Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer responsible for many legendary styles associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.
Price was best known for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, most notably the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."
Price's death comes less than a month after he unveiled his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Princess Diana.
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he began designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by looks from model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to blend menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting body-hugging looks made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
