Brian Eno Urges Support to Get Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Festive Top Spot.

A charity drive is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort aims to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.

An Opportunity for Support and an "Chart Upset"

Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”

Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.

“It has a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”

Production History and Star-Studded Lineup

The track was produced after a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the piece was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.

The diverse array of musicians featured on Lullaby features a group of acclaimed names from the industry. All took part in the September show, which reportedly raised a significant sum for charitable causes.

Final Touches and Availability

Lullaby was brought to life by a team of music creators. The song blends a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.

The team running the initiative have emphasized that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These donations will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.

“We don’t have a specific target,” a figure commented. “We aim for as much as possible. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”

The reality in the region was described as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of infrastructure said to be levelled or seriously harmed.

“In that context, a handful of millions won't make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is first of all raising awareness for this issue and proving that another narrative exists.”

The single 'Lullaby' is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from later in the month.
