Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Marshawn Kneeland has died at the age of 24.
The Cowboys selected the Cowboys in the second round of the draft in the 2024 NFL Draft and appeared in 18 games for the team, with four starting appearances.
He recorded his initial touchdown in Tuesday's defeat to the Arizona Cardinals when he recovered a blocked punt.
"He was a cherished team member and member of our organisation," the Dallas Cowboys said.
"Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his partner Catalina and his loved ones."
Kneeland was selected by Dallas with the 56th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft after his college career for Western Michigan University.
His representative, Jonathan Perzley, said his "heart breaks" for the loss of the athlete who "poured his heart" into every moment.
"I watched him fight his way from a aspiring young man at Western Michigan with a dream to being a respected professional for the Dallas Cowboys," Perzley said.
The NFL said it is "profoundly grieved" by the tragic event.
His untimely death has created a gap in the NFL community, recalled as a committed player with a bright career ahead.
