England's Bowling Consultant Tim Southee Unsure on Ashes Participation

Tim Southee's last Test match for the Kiwis was versus England in the final month of 2024.

England's fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be at the upcoming Ashes series in Australia.

The ex- New Zealand seamer is only likely to be present for the first Test due to his participation in the ILT20 competition, which begins on 2 December in the United Arab Emirates.

Southee, aged 36, assumed a role as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the summer after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Test matches for the Kiwis.

Speaking as the English squad for the opening of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was announced, Southee said of his availability: "We're still working through that at the moment.

"We'll see what happens over the next little while."

England bowling legend Broad had declared the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over the anticipated challenge during the series, which begins on 21 November.

"I don't think there's ever a bad Aussie side," Southee remarked.

"Our focus is squarely on our own objectives. I think the caliber of [the English] team that's heading out to Australia is excellent.

"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I think the entire cricketing community is."

However, before England travel to Perth for the first Ashes match, they face New Zealand in Christchurch on this Saturday.
