Ex- Physician Charged with Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Legal authorities have announced that a former doctor has been charged with carrying out assaults against 38 individuals who were patients.

Details of the Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.

One senior CPS official said, “Legal teams have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

The charges come after what investigators called a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

List of Offences

The charging documents said the 45 sexual offences include:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Police are urging individuals with information to get in touch with the investigating team.
