Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “However, I can share, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that reassures me, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD issued security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims were reported.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday morning near the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive during the current season, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was projected as an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He signed with Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
