Los Angeles witnessed widespread festivities after the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a nail-biting seven-game World Series championship. Fans worldwide joined Angelenos in jubilation, marking the initial time in 25 years that a franchise has secured back-to-back championships.
Los Angeles area celebrations included a procession through the city center on Monday morning, a ticketed rally at Dodger Stadium, and impromptu gatherings throughout the city.
Online footage show countless of Los Angeles residents flooding city center avenues, many displaying handmade banners and Dodger flags. The squad was seen traveling proudly on a double-decker bus through the crowds, hoisting the championship trophy high.
“I’m already thinking about the next championship we’re going to achieve this,” the star player remarked through an interpreter.
The parade route concluded at Dodger Stadium, where the players walked out to the rapper’s “Not Like Us,” with the renowned DJ spinning music and the artist cruising a Pacific blue vintage Cadillac around the field.
Festivities started well before the procession, with supporters lighting fireworks in the streets of the city center on Sunday night.
The World Series MVP, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke directly about the victory.
“Losing is not an option,” he stated. “I love the Dodgers. I love Los Angeles.”
In contrast, the team owner received a less warm reception at the celebration. Recordings from the gathering appear to show him walking onstage to a combination of applause and jeers, with jeers interrupting his speech.
The championship acted as a positive moment in what has been a trying year for the city. An estimated quarter-million people showed up to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to Dodgers player one athlete, fans this year demonstrated as much if not more support.
“I feel like it’s nearly twice from last year,” he remarked. “The supporters are incredible. It’s so awesome to be a part of this.”
