The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
