No McKenna Celtic Talks as Bellamy Commits to Welsh National Team

Both have been linked with the coaching position at the Scottish champions following the former manager's resignation on the start of the week.

The Manager's Stance on The Scottish Club

The Ipswich boss described Celtic as "a really big soccer institution" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in recent years and guided the team to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they managed only four games last season as they were relegated back to the second division and they currently sit 12th in the Championship.

"I have not had any of those discussions," the English capital native former Irish youth international said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my focus is currently.

"I have a unique position here at a remarkable team. And we're at a really important phase of the campaign. Everything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."

Background and Agreement Details

It has been suggested that the manager would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think all people has to publicly and declare what they were, but naturally it's a really big football club."

McKenna signed a new multi-year deal in last year and was questioned about his reported buyout clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are things," he responded. "I'm unaware what mine are and, if I did, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I approach this job like I'll be Town's coach indefinitely. I understand that's not always going to be the case, but I'll always do my best as long as I am here."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker represented the Hoops on temporary transfer from the Magpies in 2005, but the ex- Welsh striker is minded to complete the current global tournament qualification, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are presently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up North Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and North Macedonia in next month would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, thanks to a successful Nations League campaign, even if they not finish as Group J second place.

Considering his current stance, Bellamy, whose contract expires after the European Championship, would not be available until following the qualifying matches at the minimum.
