The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
