The Reform UK leader Claims Teachers of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues

Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by instructing students that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.

At a gathering for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his viewpoint on the UK education system, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.

“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators soon after securing a victory,” he remarked during a Q&A session.

“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”

Reacting to these assertions, Daniel Kebede rejected the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.

“Farage has built his political career on dog-whistle politics and now, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a fight,” Kebede stated.

“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”

The party, which tops surveys by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and seems not to have designated an education lead.

Nonetheless, his comments indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. He said: “We have got a massive job with schooling – truly monumental. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”

Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.

Paying tribute to a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and you make up your own mind as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”

The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.

Farage has accused the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted through education, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash youth opposed to his party.

Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.

National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.

During the American gathering, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He said organizations like it were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to your online courses. I make that commitment now and I’ll do that.”

The institution, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to maintain the benefits of freedom. The college furnishes these excellent programs for free to all who wish to learn.”
